The HOT BIRD™ 9 and W2M satellites of Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) are on track for launch on 20 December on an Ariane 5 ECA rocket from the Kourou Space Centre in French Guiana. Both satellites are ready for launch and installed under the fairing of the launcher which will take them into orbit on Saturday within a launch window opening at 21.51 GMT and closing at 22.50 GMT.

The Arab Radio and Television (ART) Network has renewed for a further 12 years its capacity lease on the HOT BIRD™ 8 satellite operated by Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL). One of the leading producers of premium Arabic family programming and entertainment worldwide, ART has been an anchor client at Eutelsat’s premium HOT BIRD™ video neighbourhood since 1998. The new contract extends the relationship between Eutelsat and ART to 2020 and ensures that ART can continue to expand cable and pay-TV penetration in Europe and pay-TV penetration in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

The new capacity will be used to broadcast the five Belgian French-language channels in the new TéléSAT, pay-TV platform, comprising RTBF La Une and La Deux, RTL-TVi, Club RTL and PLUG TV.

EUTELSAT UPDATE ON TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE W5 SATELLITE

Following the incident in the night of 16 to 17 June affecting part of the power generator subsystem of the W5 satellite, Eutelsat set up a technical investigation on the satellite’s performance together with its manufacturer, Thales Alenia Space. On the basis of elements of this investigation, confirmed today by Thales Alenia Space1, Eutelsat informs that the remaining orbital lifetime of W5 could be reduced by a maximum of three years.

Eutelsat strongly affirms its independence and holds no prejudice against NTDTV

In the night of 16 to 17 June 2008, Eutelsat’s W5 satellite experienced an anomaly which led to the loss of the use of one of the spacecraft’s two solar arrays. Following standard procedures and after analysis of technical data, the decision was taken to switch-off four of the satellite’s 24 transponders to enable sufficient power to be maintained to operate the 20 remaining transponders in service.

The Joint Venture, known under the name "Solaris", will commercialise the first satellite infrastructure in Europe for broadcasting video, radio and data to mobile devices and vehicle receivers as well as a range of interactive mobile services. Eutelsat`s W2A satellite carrying the S-Band payload is under construction since October 2006 and is scheduled for launch at the very beginning of 2009.
