The W7 satellite of Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) has been successfully lofted into orbit by a Proton Breeze M rocket supplied by ILS. Lift-off of Eutelsat’s 5.6 tonne communications satellite took place on Tuesday 24 November at 14.19 GMT (15.19 CET). After a 9-hour 12-minute flight, the launcher released W7 into geosynchronous transfer orbit at 23.31 GMT (00.31 CET).

EUTELSAT TOOWAY SERVICE SELECTED BY SFR FOR ITS NEW SATELLITE BROADBAND SERVICE FOR FRENCH HOMES

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) today announced the signature of a far-reaching contract concluded between its Skylogic broadband affiliate and SFR, one of the leading telecommunications operators in France. SFR has selected Tooway™ to meet demand for broadband from its customers beyond ADSL coverage. Called the ‘Satellite Internet Pack’ the new service supplied by SFR was launched today using capacity on Eutelsat’s HOT BIRD™ 6 satellite. It will be extended on Eutelsat’s new-generation KA-SAT satellite whose launch is scheduled for end 2010. With more than 80 beams operating in the Ka-band, KA-SAT will enable up to two million homes across Europe to benefit from broadband access.

EUTELSAT AND ASIA BROADCAST SATELLITE STRIKE STRATEGIC AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATION AT 75° EAST POSITION

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) and Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) today announced the execution of a strategic agreement for commercial cooperation at the 75° East orbital location. Within the framework of this agreement Eutelsat is colocating its EUROBIRD™ 4 satellite at 75° East with the ABS-1 and ABS-1A satellites operated by ABS. This redeployment will inject an additional eight Ku-band transponders to 75° East to address markets in the Middle East, central Asia and Russia. Renamed W75/ABS-1B, Eutelsat’s satellite will also provide possible redundancy to customers until the arrival of ABS-2, which is expected in 2012.

Maximum uplink speeds have also increased to 384 kbps for all customers. In addition, overnight usage volumes will be discounted by 50% between midnight and 6am GMT to reward use of the satellite network at times of traditional low usage.

The W2A satellite of Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) was successfully lofted into orbit today by a Proton Breeze M rocket supplied by ILS. Lift-off of the 5.9 tonne satellite took place on Friday 3 April at 16.24 GMT (18.24 CET). After a 9-hour 10-minute flight, the launcher released W2A into a geosynchronous transfer orbit at 01.34 GMT (03.34 CET) on April 4.

It will replace EUROBIRD™ 9 at this position, doubling operational resources from 20 to 38 transponders.

This new initiative is consistent with Action No. 1 of the “Digital France 2012” Plan announced by the French government in October 2008, which aims to foster the emergence of broadband offers by 1 January 2010 so that all homes in France are guaranteed access to broadband at reasonable cost and irrespective of their location.

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) announces that the performance of the W2M satellite, which was launched on 20 December 2008, does not comply with the requirements set with the spacecraft’s manufacturer, EADS Astrium/ISRO Antrix, following a major anomaly affecting the satellite’s power subsystem. This anomaly occurred during the satellite’s transfer from the location used for in-orbit tests to its operating position at 16 degrees East where its mission was to replace well in advance Eutelsat’s W2 satellite.
