NEW IBC INNOVATION AWARDS
RAI and Eutelsat short-listed for
prestigious Judges Award
The IBC Awards Ceremony, which takes
place on the evening of 10th September, will
take on a new significance this year, with the
introduction of a series of Innovation Awards.
RAI and partners, including Eutelsat, are in
the running for the Judges Award.
The four awards are given out for content
creation, content management and content
delivery. The Judges Award will be the most
prestigious of the night, as it represents
an outstanding contribution in technology
applications that encompass a combination of
content creation, management and delivery.
A great team performance
During the 2006 XX Olympic Winter Games,
in Torino, RAI, Italy’s public broadcaster,
together with a team of partners including
Eutelsat, launched a series of experimental transmissions of HDTV and Mobile TV,
covering the Torino area and some of the
Olympic mountain sites. The trial enabled
viewers and mobile phone users across the
region to enjoy the competitions, just as if they
were sitting in the first row.
The HDTV and DVB-H signals transmitted by
Eutelsat’s W3A satellite were received by a
small antenna and rebroadcast by the Raiway
terrestrial network in the mountain sites.
The project was coordinated by the Centre
of Research and Technological Innovation of
RAI, with the aim to test the most recent DVB/MPEG technologies. It also showed the ability
of satellites to serve users directly and to feed
DTT and DVB-H networks.
We wish all award nominees good luck.
