VIA EUTELSAT :: RadioCom connects rural areas of Romania via SESAT 1

RadioCom has chosen Eutelsat's SESAT 1 satellite at 36 degrees East for telecommunications and business networks throughout the country. The capacity will be used for both governmental and business projects.

Among the governmental solutions is the Telecentres Project, an initiative from Romania's National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRC) to install Telecentres which provide locals with access to communications facilities, in rural zones with limited or no access to such services. At mid-2005, 53% of households in Romania had a fixed telephone line, with only approximately 10 fixed lines per 100 inhabitants in rural areas*. Despite high demand for fixed lines, network rollout is particularly challenging, with one third of the country's territory covered by mountains and sparsely populated. RadioCom was one of four companies chosen to install the telecentres. The centres are connected via SESAT 1 to a VSAT-based solution providing access to the public telephone network, fax and Internet.

The company also provides business networks including Internet & telephony, videoconferencing and satellite-based communications solutions for companies requiring SESAT 1's wide coverage, from the Atlantic to the Urals. These include solutions for banks, oil and energy companies, and other multinationals located in Romania.
