EUROBIRD 16 (formerly HOT BIRD 4) provides high-power Ku-band coverage of Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
With twelve channels operating
within a broad Widebeam coverage and a high-power Steerable beam coverage, EUROBIRD 16 was designed from the outset for consumer broadcasting, enabling Direct-to-Home (DTH) reception of digital services with domestic antennas, from 16 degrees East.
Operating alongside SESAT 1 and W2M also located at 16 degrees East, EUROBIRD 16 enhances one of Eutelsat’s most long-standing orbital positions. 16 degrees East is an important
video location for satellite TV broadcasting to homes in Central and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean Basin and the Middle
East, as well as to islands in the Indian Ocean region. Seven pay-TV platforms and almost 400 TV channels are already broadcasting
from this orbital location.
EUROBIRD 16 also supports broadcasting to islands in the Indian Ocean region with increased capacity for the development
of Direct-to-Home pay TV.
