SESAT 1 :: 36° East

The SESAT 1 satellite provides a widebeam coverage, extending over a very wide geographical area with enhanced coverage of Western Europe, and a steerable coverage positioned over sub-Saharan Africa.

Six of the eighteen channels can be independently connected to either the steerable or the widebeam coverage. This permits communication between the two beams, as well as within the individual beams. The remaining twelve channels are connected to the widebeam coverage.

Sharing the 36° East orbital position with the W4 satellite, SESAT 1 contributes to the development of international, regional and domestic services, such as thin route telephony, corporate and specialised data services and long distance trunk telephony.

Launch date: 18/04/00
Launch details: Proton K
Satellite construction: Alcatel Space / NPO-PM
