EUROBIRD 9A :: 9° EAST
EUROBIRD 9A has been deployed to 9 degrees East. Formerly HOT BIRD 7A, the rebranded satellite is joining Eutelsat's newest video neighbourhood, almost doubling the number of operational transponders. Adjacent to Eutelsat’s
premium HOT BIRD™ position,
reception of channels from both locations is possible with
off-the-shelf dual-feed domestic dishes.
Optimised for DTH (Direct-to-Home) broadcasting, EUROBIRD™ 9A delivers 38 fully
operational Ku-band transponders supplying coverage across Europe, North Africa and the
Middle East.
At mid 2010 there were over 270 channels broadcasting from 9° East, with nearly 40 in high definition. Broadcasters are attracted to the cost-effective rates and the possibility to reach the HOT BIRD satellites at 13° East, the premium European broadcast neighbourhood, with a simple ClipSat dual-feed installation.
In 2009,
Eutelsat launched a programme of 3D-TV demonstrations via its EUROBIRD™ 9A
satellite. This permanent 3D channel is designed to serve as a test bed, analysing the
performance levels of screens, encoders and decoders, and giving players in the field full
measure to understand the potential of this ground-breaking technology.
