Global connectivity designed for a connected world

OneWeb is Eutelsat's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) network, delivering secure, resilient and high-performance connectivity across the globe. Accessible on land, at sea and in the air, it extends the reach of digital infrastructure to locations where terrestrial networks cannot always go.

With more than 600 satellites orbiting at approximately 1,200 km above Earth, the constellation is secure by design and provides global coverage, including high-latitude regions beyond the reach of many traditional networks.

Its low-latency performance, enterprise-grade capabilities and seamlessly integrated GEO and LEO ecosystem enable organisations to stay connected, secure and operational wherever their activities takes them.

Built for Performance

More than just broadband

OneWeb was designed to support organisations that depend on connectivity to operate. Unlike consumer-focused satellite services, the network is engineered for enterprise, government, telecom, maritime and aviation customers.

Key capabilities include:

  • Service level commitments
  • Managed services
  • Private networking
  • SD-WAN integration
  • Carrier-grade operations

The result is a connectivity platform that gives organisations the confidence and ability to extend corporate networks, connect remote sites and support critical operations both in fixed positions and on-the move.

Trusted connectivity for critical operations

Combining over 600 in-orbit satellites with a global ground infrastructure, the OneWeb constellation delivers secure, high-performance connectivity for enterprise and mission-critical environments. Extending connectivity beyond the reach of terrestrial infrastructure it provides the low latency, resilience and flexibility required by modern operations.

Global Reach

Coverage across remote, maritime, aviation and high-latitude environments

Low latency

Responsive connectivity that unlocks applications that depend on real-time response, from cloud services to video calls.

Rapid Deployment

Connectivity can be established quickly where terrestrial networks are unavailable

Service Resilience

Access to LEO or a multi-orbit architecture enhances continuity, flexibility and network reliability.

Security and Assurance by Design

Security is embedded throughout the OneWeb network architecture, from the satellite constellation and terrestrial infrastructure to network operations and customer connectivity services. A multi-layered approach combines encrypted communications, secure network operations and private networking capabilities to help organisations protect data, maintain operational control and meet internal governance requirements.

This enables customers in government, defence, critical infrastructure, energy and enterprise sectors to extend trusted connectivity without compromising security standards.

Working with a global ecosystem of certified partners and service providers, Eutelsat also ensures solutions can be deployed, managed and supported according to local operational, regulatory and business requirements.

Key benefits

  • Multi-layer security architecture
  • Encrypted communications and protected data transmission
  • Secure network operations and infrastructure monitoring
  • Private and segregated networking options
  • Support for regulated and mission-critical environments

From OneWeb to IRIS²

Building Europe's connectivity future

Created to extend reliable, low-latency connectivity beyond the reach of terrestrial networks, the OneWeb constellation provides the foundation of Eutelsat's long-term LEO strategy.

Following the combination of OneWeb into Eutelsat, the company became the world's first integrated GEO-LEO satellite operator, bringing together complementary orbital capabilities within a single network proposition.

Looking ahead, Eutelsat is leading the LEO segment of IRIS², Europe's future sovereign multi-orbit connectivity infrastructure. The programme will bring additional capacity, next-generation technologies and enhanced resilience, helping shape the future of secure satellite communications across Europe and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Low Earth Orbit (LEO) refers to satellites operating much closer to the planet than conventional geostationary satellites, which sit at around 35,000 km above Earth. The LEO satellites in Eutelsat's OneWeb constellation orbit at approximately 1,200 km, a distance that significantly shortens the path a signal has to travel. This is what allows the network to deliver lower-latency performance than the signal delay typically associated with higher orbits.

  • Because Eutelsat's LEO satellites fly much closer to Earth than geostationary satellites, each one covers a smaller portion of the globe at any given moment. This fleet of more than 600 satellites spread across 12 synchronised orbital planes are therefore needed to guarantee continuous, global coverage from the lower earth orbit. This distributed architecture is also what makes the network resilient: if one satellite is unavailable, coverage is maintained by others plus spare satellites in the constellation. Additional satellites in the fleet would deliver higher capacity but Eutelsat's LEO services target business users rather than the mass consumer-broad market and manages it's capacity to ensure quality of service is delivered for those users.

  • Following the combination of OneWeb into Eutelsat, the company became the world's first integrated GEO-LEO satellite operator. This means customers are not limited to a single orbit: they can choose GEO, LEO or multi-orbit capabilities which are seamlessly integrated within one network proposition. Organisations can draw on whichever orbit, or combination of orbits, best suits their economic, performance and coverage requirements.

  • Unlike consumer-focused satellite services, Eutelsat's OneWeb LEO service is engineered specifically for enterprise, government, telecom, maritime and aviation customers. This translates into capabilities such as service level commitments, managed services, private networking, SD-WAN integration and carrier-grade operations, features aimed at organisations that need guaranteed, auditable performance rather than best-effort connectivity.

  • IRIS² is Europe's future sovereign multi-orbit connectivity infrastructure, and Eutelsat is leading its LEO segment. The OneWeb constellation provides the technical and operational foundation for this long-term strategy. Looking ahead, IRIS² is expected to add further capacity, next-generation technologies and enhanced resilience, extending the model already established by OneWeb across Europe and beyond.
