Eutelsat orders 340 more LEO satellites from Airbus
  • Delivering enhanced technical performance through technology upgrades
  • Assuring full continuity of service for customers of Eutelsat’s OneWeb constellation
  • Enabling Eutelsat to pursue its dynamic LEO growth path

Paris, 12 January 2026– Eutelsat (ISIN: FR0010221234 – Euronext Paris / London Stock Exchange: ETL) has awarded Airbus Defence and Space a contract to build a further 340 OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. Together with the previous batch of 100 satellites procured in December 2024, the total number of satellites ordered is up to 440.

The satellites will be manufactured at Airbus Defence and Space’s Toulouse facility on a newly installed production line, with delivery from the end of 2026.

Eutelsat’s OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network delivers high-speed, low-latency connectivity on a global basis. With over 600 satellites flying in 12 synchronised orbital planes 1,200km above the Earth, the constellation brings high-speed internet to every corner of the planet. The availability of these latest satellites will assure full operational continuity for customers of the constellation, progressively replacing early batches coming to end of operational life.

Furthermore, they will integrate technology upgrades including advanced digital channelizers, enabling enhanced onboard processing capabilities as well as greater efficiency and flexibility. They incorporate optimized architecture designed to maximize long-term operational performance. With these latest satellites, Eutelsat will also be evaluating opportunities for new business cases, notably through embarkation capabilities for hosted payloads.

Fully focused on the professional B2B market, Eutelsat’s OneWeb is one of only two fully operational LEO networks globally and the sole European operator. This unique position enables Eutelsat to meet the rapidly growing demand for LEO capacity in the fixed and mobile connectivity segments as well as playing a strategic role in critical government-related sectors by delivering sovereign-grade connectivity solutions that empower organizations with reliable and secure communications.

Jean-François Fallacher, Eutelsat Chief Executive Officer commented: “We are pleased to rely on our long-standing partner, Airbus, for the procurement of these latest satellites. They ensure service continuity for the growing number of our customers and distribution partners benefiting from the unparalleled performance of our ubiquitous, low latency LEO capacity, and enable us to pursue our growth path, building on the 80% topline expansion delivered in 2025.”

“This latest contract from Eutelsat is an endorsement of our design and manufacturing expertise for LEO satellites. Airbus has been a key partner and supplier to Eutelsat for more than 30 years and this award further cements our important relationship,” added Alain Fauré, Head of Space Systems at Airbus Defence and Space.

Eutelsat and Airtel Gabon connect passenger trains
  • Eutelsat’s OneWeb LEO network to provide passenger Wi-Fi services on the Transgabon Railway
  • Reinforcing the Eutelsat - Airtel partnership, with this deployment marking the start of an expanded collaboration on rail connectivity across Africa

Paris, 30 December 2025 - Eutelsat (ISIN: FR0010221234 - Euronext Paris / London Stock Exchange: ETL) today announced that its OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) connectivity services are being deployed to connect passenger trains in Gabon, delivered in partnership with Airtel Gabon.

The deployment builds on successful testing and is being implemented as part of a national initiative led by the Gabonese Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation and the Ministry of Transport, Merchant Marine and Logistics, in collaboration with the Transgabon Railway Operating Company (SETRAG). By extending LEO connectivity to rail transport, the project will support Gabon’s efforts to integrate digital services into public transportation, modernise the railway experience and enhance passenger comfort, while enabling reliable broadband services along long-distance routes beyond the reach of terrestrial networks.

This deployment extends the reach of Eutelsat’s established OneWeb LEO services in Africa and reflects the Group’s continued focus on working with governments and telecom operators to support digital infrastructure development, including in transport and other public services. It also reinforces Eutelsat’s collaboration with Airtel, laying the groundwork for a broader deployment of rail connectivity solutions across the continent.

Philippe Baudrier, Vice President, Africa, Eutelsat said “This deployment with Airtel Gabon reflects Eutelsat’s commitment to extending the benefits of OneWeb LEO connectivity in support of national digital initiatives. It also reinforces our partnership with Airtel and establishes a strong foundation for additional rail connectivity projects across Africa. By enabling reliable broadband services on passenger trains, we are contributing to the modernisation of public transport infrastructure and an improved travel experience for rail passengers in Gabon.”

Thomas Herbert Gutjahr, Airtel Gabon Managing Director added: “Working with Eutelsat, the government, and national partners such as SETRAG, we are supporting the delivery of onboard connectivity services that enhance passenger comfort and support the integration of digital services into Gabon’s rail network. This project reflects our broader commitment to supporting the country’s highest authorities in their vision for innovation and digital transformation across the country.”

    Resilience for stronger networks

Harnessing satellite systems for network continuity and more reliable mission-critical operations

    Build resilience into your infrastructure

A resilient communications network is key to performance. Sometimes it is a regulatory obligation. Sometimes it is mission-critical. In all cases, failure to build in resilience can be costly.

In every sector of activity, IT and communications networks now require a multi-layered approach to ensure operational performance and security covering. Teams are faced with a range of challenges they need to overcome such as:

    • Ensuring independence from terrestrial infrastructure with a connectivity layer which is operational even when ground systems fail
    • Eliminating single points of failure by introducing backup and redundancy solutions so critical operations never stop
    • Handling surge conditions whilst maintaining service quality to deliver performance during emergencies
    • Maintaining connectivity in remote and harsh environments on land, at sea or in the air, despite limited fibre expansion and difficult terrain
